DJI Mavic 3 Pro drone has been unveiled and has 3 cameras

The DJI Mavic 3 Pro has been unveiled, has three cameras and is not as expensive as we expected. The prosumer drone is slightly heavier than the other models, but also comes with many new options and functions.

Three cameras on the Mavic 3 Pro

In the leading role we see the cameras and especially the new third camera attracts attention. The main camera still consists of a large Mirco FourThirds CMOS sensor with a focal length of 24mm and variable aperture of f/2.8-f/11. The MFT sensor is almost the same as that of the DJI Mavic 3, but in this case, supplied by Sony.

The second and newest camera is a mid-range telephoto lens with a zoom of three times. This 48-megapixel camera on a 1/1-3-inch sensor has a focal length of 70mm and an aperture of f/2.8. The third camera is a telephoto lens of 12 megapixels on a 1/2-inch sensor and gives an image of 166mm and an aperture of f/3.4.

DJI Mavic 3 Pro camera specs
Camera Sensor Focal length Aperture
Main camera 20MP Micro FourThirds 24mm f/2.8-f/11
Mid-telephoto (3x zoom) New 48MP 1/1.3″ 70mm f/2.8
Telephoto (7x zoom) 12MP 1/2″ 166mm f/3.4

Improved telephoto camera

In addition to the new 70mm telephoto lens, the 166mm camera has been improved compared to that of the DJI Mavic 3. On the Mavic 3, the aperture is f/4.4 and that is now f/3.4. In addition, the third lens has gone from 162mm to 166mm. The 166mm lens is still processed on a 1/2-inch sensor, which is fairly small. That means you get the best images when there is enough light. The quality is quite disappointing when the sensor is challenged.

Alternative to digital zoom

The two new 70mm cameras have been introduced as an alternative to digital zoom. When digitally zooming in, pixels are enlarged and you lose quality. DJI has solved this by using a 48-megapixel sensor, which means the 70mm zoom should be better than the digital zoom from the main camera. The specifications correspond to those of the DJI Mini 3 Pro 48 megapixel sensor.

Filming in 5.1K 50fps and 4K 120fps

On the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, you can film in a maximum resolution of 5.1K with 50fps, 4K 120fps or 4K 60fps while subject tracking works. It is now possible to perform a ‘waypoint flight’. The drone can fly a predetermined route. Furthermore, Cruise Control is present for smooth longer flights and return-to-home options have been added.

A heavy drone

The DJI Mavic 3 Pro has become a bit heavier and weighs 958 grams for the normal version and 963 grams for the DJI Mavic 3 Cine version. This means that according to the DJI Mavic 3, the Mavic 3 Pro ends up in the A2 class. This means you have to take an online course and an exam. The Mavic 3 is slightly lighter and is allowed to fly over people, while the Mavic 3 Pro should not.

DJI Mavic 3 Pro Cine

With the DJI Mavic 3 Pro Cine you get the same as the normal Mavic 3 Pro, plus Apple ProRes 422 HQ format movie. The ProRes codec can be used by all three lenses. In addition, a 1TB SSD has been incorporated into the drone for fast processing of the images.
