Uncompressed 8K movie
It’s a relief to hear that the 8K film isn’t cropped or compressed because It would be a shame if only a small part of the sensor would’ve been used for 8K film. You would lose the advantage of the full-frame sensor and therefore not have a ‘real’ 8K film. The maximum frame rate is 30 frames per second in 8K and Dual Pixel CMOS AF is available in 8K mode. At 4K, the EOS R5 films 120 frames per second. You record the 8K film in a maximum of 12-bit, but it is also possible to lower the settings to 10-bit 4:2:2 MP4/H.265 or 8-bit 4:2:0.
Filming in 4K 120fps
Not every job needs 8K film, but the 8K capability means you can get the best 4K out of a larger resolution. In 4K, you can film 10-bit 4:2:2 at a maximum of 120 frames per second. At 60fps you can use the full sensor or a 1.6x crop. To get the best 4K out of 8K, use the 4K HQ mode.
Advanced animal eye focus
Where other mirrorless camera manufacturers are already on their way with autofocus on animal eyes, Canon immediately goes one step further. It not only recognizes a dog, cat, bird by the eyes, but the recognition system also records the shape, face and body. Autofocus is always active here. It is a giant improvement and especially animal photographers will be pleased. A joystick and no touch bar
